JPEG

JPEG (or JPG) is an image format for electronic storage. It is named after the committee "Joint Photographic Experts Group", which drafted the standard. In JPEG-Images color- or grayscale information is stored with 24 Bits per pixel. This results in 16 million possible colors. The format is quite popular for saving of pictures in digital photography, because it compresses very efficiently. The image of an 8 Megapixel-camera, which would have an uncompressed size of f.E. 22 Mbyte, can be reduced to a 2 - 3 MByte file while retaining a high quality. JPEG however is not a lossless compression - according to the motiv and the degree of compression various details can go missing.

Voice- and Videorecording

Should the digital camera come equipped with a voice and/or video recording function, sound and/or moving images can be recorded.
