Image compression

Images are compressed in order to save data space efficiently. However compressions do often entail a reduced image quality.

RAW Data Format

The Data Format RAW stores images in its untreated form. This has the advantage, that no automatic adjustments are made by the camera and that the photographer can adjust the image completely to his needs. Disadvantages are the high need of storage space and the time consuming postprocessing afterwards. The various camera manufacturers have multiple RAW-formats to choose from.
