A lot of digital cameras only have a display, and that is why the quality of the display is so important: not only should it be as big as possible but it should also have as many pixels as possible that you can see every detail and if the picture is blurry. 2.5 inch (around 5 centimeters) display with circa 230,000 pixels are standard. Having an additional viewfinder can be very helpful when you take pictures outside with intense sunlight: because it is very hard to see the picture on the display with glaring sunlight, the picture you see through the optical viewfinder is always more real and only as bright as the surroundings.

Glossary

Finder Type

Basically there are three Finder-Types: with the reflex viewfinder the photographer looks onto the finder from above, the panorama viewfinder has the photographer viewing right through the finder with his eye and the monitor offers him a horizontal or tilted image view. With digital cameras there is an aditional differentiation to make between a digital finder or LCD; both partially or fully turn- or pivotable.

Size of the LCD-Monitor

The size of the LCD-Monitor is mostly stated in inches.

LCD Display

Liquid Cristals under the influence of an electrical current control the direction of polarisation in Liquid Crystal Displays and thus its translucence. LCD-Screens are used by digital cameras, notebooks or in calculators.
