Zoom (type of lens)

On the one hand manufacturer like to argue in favor of even higher zoom magnifications, on the other hand pictures taken with a higher magnification but without a tripod are often shaky. In addition zooming is often perceived to be unnatural, because the human eye cannot zoom in on distant objects. One can differentiate between optical and digital zoom.

Optical zoom

This is an optical zoom process, controlled by the lens. This is also known as the "real" zooming process, which offers the same resolution at different zooming factors.
