Zoom (type of lens)

On the one hand manufacturer like to argue in favor of even higher zoom magnifications, on the other hand pictures taken with a higher magnification but without a tripod are often shaky. In addition zooming is often perceived to be unnatural, because the human eye cannot zoom in on distant objects. One can differentiate between optical and digital zoom.

Digital zoom

The digital zoom immitates the zoom process electronically. It only magnifies the image section and stretches the pixelstructures at the same rate in the same ratio as the original motiv. This leads to a deterioration of the image in relation to the increasing zoom factor, up to an unusable image.
