CCD Sensor (Charge Coupled Device)

CCD means charge coupled device. This can be understood as an element consisting of image sensors (to be found behind the lens in camcorders), which is also used in scanners or digital cameras. The "charge coupled device" converts light into electrical signals. The more light it processes, the better the image quality becomes. Therefore the bigger the surface of the image sensor, the more light it can "receive". The CCD sensor is mostly found in affordable camcorders. The 1 chip-model stores images differently than the 3-chip-model.

CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor)

The CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Sensor is a light sensitive construction module, which is used as a conversion of light signals and as an alternative to CCD-elements in digital cameras and digital video cameras. CMOS sensors under direct sunlight and difficult lighting achieve better results. In addition they use up less energy and are cheaper to produce.
