3 Chip CCD

The 3Chip CCD-camcorder works with three sensors. In order to achieve a realistic color display, a prism separates the colors red, green and blue and leads the light to their corresponding chip. Cameras with 3 chips not only supply a better picture, but also significantly sharper images than cameras with only one chip. Because of the two additional CCDs and the complicated optics the price is significantly higher than with a one ccd camera. Attainable only for professionals some years ago, three chip cameras have now become affordable for amateurs as well.
